Cat Entertainment Services Reflects on 9/11

September 10, 2013 12:17

Today we pause to remember those lost on a horrific day 12 years ago. We also remember those ordinary people who became extraordinary heroes.

We will never forget. Cat Entertainment Services is honored to have provided temporary power for New York’s Tribute in Light since 2008. The Tribute in Light is an art installation of 88 searchlights placed next to the site of the World Trade Center to create two vertical columns of light in remembrance of the September 11 attacks. The Tribute in Light is energized with 2,400 Kw of electrical power generation and more than 5 miles of power cabling.

Coachella Valley music festivals thrive on CES power

May 07, 2013 15:16

Cat Entertainment Services was busy the entire month of April, supplying power for two of the biggest music festivals in the country. Load-in began April 1 for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival in Indio, Calif. Seventeen CES technicians and more than 60 generators remained on the grounds during the six-day event, which took place over two weekends: April 12 – 14 and 19 – 21.

More than 95,000 people-a-day attended “Coachella,” headlining acts like Blur, Phoenix and Red Hot Chili Peppers, to name a few.

The following weekend, CES supplied the power for “Stagecoach 2013” and some 650 RVs parked at the three-day, country-music jamboree, also held in sun-scorched Coachella Valley.  There, a crowd of 45,000 fans rollicked to the likes of the Zac Brown Band, Charlie Pride, Dwight Yoakam, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith and Charlie Daniels while remaining blissfully unaware of the flawless, behind-the-scenes performance of our CES techs.

Little do festival-goers know how much their enjoyment depends on our hard-working CES technicians! Thanks to the expertise and dedication of project manager Marcus Brown and his on-site crew of techs, the events in Coachella Valley draw some of the biggest, most satisfied crowds of all.

CES Expands Green Initiatives

March 11, 2013 08:44

The drive schedule for Cat Entertainment Services’ tractor-trailer rigs on the NASCAR circuit exceeds 50,000 miles per vehicle per year.

For the upcoming NASCAR season, the dual tires on the CES long haul tractors and trailers have been replaced with “Super Single” tires. In addition to reducing overall weight by as much as 1,000 pounds per rig, these tires reduce the vehicles’ rolling resistance, improving fuel economy from four to six percent in terms of miles per gallon.

The bottom line? It’s estimated that the tire exchange could save as much as $8,000 per vehicle in fuel costs and recover the initial cost in one season. Equally important, it will reduce the division’s carbon footprint.

CES is committed to finding ways to improve efficiency and minimize the entertainment industry’s impact on the environment.

One of the first tech support teams to arrive and one of the last to leave, Cat® Entertainment Services helped tip off the NBA All-Star Game this February for the thirteenth consecutive year.

Working behind the scenes at the Toyota Center in Houston, CES supplied the 2,500 kilowatts of technical power required to run the television complex consisting of 13 mobile units, including Turner Studios’ new, 53-foot TS2 production truck, three uplinks, nine office trailers and a host of other facilities such as dressing rooms and even a COW (Cellular on Wheels) facility to enhance wireless connectivity.

CES also powered four mobile units and three uplinks at the George R. Brown Convention Center throughout the 62nd annual All-Star event to ensure that the star-studded pre-game parties, shows and celebrity games were a success.

It's not until after the mobile units are well on their way to their next assignment and the office trailers are vacant that CES can pick up their power distribution and miles of cable and move onto their next assignment.
