More than 60,000 fans of polka, German food and beer gathered in Addison, Texas last week for four days of music, food and fun. In its 12th year, Addison’s four-day German festival is one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich.
CAT® Entertainment Services was tasked with powering the event, which included the 330’ by 160’ main tent, 40 arts and crafts tents, 31 food vendors and 18 sponsor tents. A total of 580 tons of air conditioning was used to ensure the comfort of festival attendees.

More than 30,000 folk music fans descended on Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 24th-26th for the annual Newport Folk Festival.
For three days, fans enjoyed performances by popular folk singers on the festival’s four stages. Friday night’s headliner was Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, accompanied by My Morning Jacket. Saturday, James Taylor surprised fans with a greatest hits mini-set. This marked his first time performing at the festival since his set was cut short in 1969 with news that Neil Armstrong had become the first man on the moon. Sunday night featured a line-up of artists, billed as “65 Revisited,” homage to the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan playing the festival. In 1965, Dylan plugged in his 1965 and Fender Stratocaster, “going electric” for just one song. At the time, he was booed off stage for not playing an acoustic guitar at the “fiercely folk” festival. The guitar was never played again — until Jason Isbell was invited onstage to play the guitar Sunday.
While fans were enjoying the music, a team of Cat Entertainment Services technicians worked behind the scenes to power audio, video and lighting for all four festival stages. A twin 300 kW generator, tow-plant generator and four 480 volt transformers were all brought in to “electrify” the legendary folk festival.
