September 25, 2015 12:23

More than 60,000 fans of polka, German food and beer gathered in Addison, Texas last week for four days of music, food and fun. In its 12th year, Addison’s four-day German festival is one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich.

CAT® Entertainment Services was tasked with powering the event, which included the 330’ by 160’ main tent, 40 arts and crafts tents, 31 food vendors and 18 sponsor tents. A total of 580 tons of air conditioning was used to ensure the comfort of festival attendees.

Cat Entertainment Services Powers Newport Folk Fest

July 31, 2015 15:15

More than 30,000 folk music fans descended on Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 24th-26th for the annual Newport Folk Festival.

For three days, fans enjoyed performances by popular folk singers on the festival’s four stages. Friday night’s headliner was Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, accompanied by My Morning Jacket. Saturday, James Taylor surprised fans with a greatest hits mini-set. This marked his first time performing at the festival since his set was cut short in 1969 with news that Neil Armstrong had become the first man on the moon.  Sunday night featured a line-up of artists, billed as “65 Revisited,” homage to the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan playing the festival.  In 1965, Dylan plugged in his 1965 and Fender Stratocaster, “going electric” for just one song. At the time, he was booed off stage for not playing an acoustic guitar at the “fiercely folk” festival. The guitar was never played again — until Jason Isbell was invited onstage to play the guitar Sunday.

While fans were enjoying the music, a team of Cat Entertainment Services technicians worked behind the scenes to power audio, video and lighting for all four festival stages. A twin 300 kW generator, tow-plant generator and four 480 volt transformers were all brought in to “electrify” the legendary folk festival.

Cat Entertainment Services Powers Vanity Fair Oscar Party

February 23, 2015 11:40

Every year, once the final Oscar has been handed out, Hollywood's “A-list” stars leave the Dolby Theatre and head to the super exclusive Vanity Fair Oscar Party.  Stars arrive draped in designer clothes, trimmed with million dollar jewelry and carrying their Oscar with them as an accessory.

This year's party, held in a custom tent just blocks away from Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills, was once again powered by Cat® Entertainment Services.

CES provided redundant generator systems to supply temporary power for the party's lighting, audio and video power, detailed power for the kitchen as well as misc. power around the venue.  The party even had its own red carpet, which of course was energized by Cat Entertainment Services. CES was also responsible for temperature control inside the tent.  A series of heaters and air conditioners were used to combat the heat of the day and the cool of the night.

Cat Entertainment Services (CES) provides rental power generation and rental temperature control equipment for sports and special events, music festivals, concert tours, film, video and broadcast productions around the world. Mitch Margolin Represents CAT Entertainment Services at Tour Link 2011

This January, CAT Entertainment Servicesâ Senior Account Manager Mitch Margolin had the distinct honor to take part in a panel discussion at Tour Link 2011 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tour Link is an annual conference of approximately 500 event production professionals (most attendees prefer "roadie") responsible for staging live concert tours across the world. Participants spent three days at the event, learning, networking and meeting some of the industry legends in their highly specialized, event production world.

This year the annual conference featured 14 panel sessions led by industry experts, hand-picked to exchange dialogue with the audience and offer the benefit of their wisdom and experience. Mitch Margolin, CAT Entertainment Services’ very own concert tour pro, sat on the "Festival Challenges" panel. Margolin joined what the February issue of Mobile Production Monthly called "a wide representation of festival experts". Margolin’s panel included the tour manager for Phish, the president of Brown United Staging, the production manager for the Coachella festival and the owner of Rat Sound in a discussion about managing festival logistics.

Organized by Tour Guide Publications, Tour Link is considered the premier gathering of the live event production industry, so it is quite an honor to be invited to take part. Mitch really did us all proud!
